Krugman: Paul Ryan, republicans and "Their Own Private Europe"
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/28/opinion/28krugman.html?_r=1&scp=5&sq=krugman&st=Search

Mr. Ryan made highly dubious assertions about employment, health care and more. But what caught my eye, when I read the transcript, was what he said about other countries: “Just take a look at what’s happening to Greece, Ireland, the United Kingdom and other nations in Europe. They didn’t act soon enough; and now their governments have been forced to impose painful austerity measures: large benefit cuts to seniors and huge tax increases on everybody.”

It’s a good story: Europeans dithered on deficits, and that led to crisis. Unfortunately, while that’s more or less true for Greece, it isn’t at all what happened either in Ireland or in Britain, whose experience actually refutes the current Republican narrative.

But then, American conservatives have long had their own private Europe of the imagination — a place of economic stagnation and terrible health care, a collapsing society groaning under the weight of Big Government. The fact that Europe isn’t actually like that — did you know that adults in their prime working years are more likely to be employed in Europe than they are in the United States? — hasn’t deterred them. So we shouldn’t be surprised by similar tall tales about European debt problems.

Which brings me back to Paul Ryan and his response to President Obama. Again, American conservatives have long used the myth of a failing Europe to argue against progressive policies in America. More recently, they have tried to appropriate Europe’s debt problems on behalf of their own agenda, never mind the fact that events in Europe actually point the other way.

1. After pres. obama's sotu address, ryan & michele backwards chose to once again SCARING SENIORS...
...& LOW-INFORMATION VOTERS with their LIES, DISTORTIONS, MISREPRESENTING OF FACTS & OUTRIGHT PROPAGANDIZING of what bu$h-republican$ left pres.-elect obama on January 21, 2009.

LIVE BY Frank 'fat slob' Luntz talking points, DIE BY Frank 'fat slob' Luntz talking points!

Selective memory isn't going to save g.o.p.-teabaggers; the truth about their fiscal irresponsibility during the bush years (& a complicit corp.media) helped to almost push the country over the cliff! Couple that with 2 years ('09-'11) of obstructionism & racism have brought the country to this precarious juncture!

republicans & fake teabaggers can make schit up only for so long before the low-info american catches on to republican chicken schit circus act before blowing-up on their asses! The last time i checked, both liberals and conservatives were all in the same boat together; who cares if we all have differing points of view. The country is in serious trouble and i'm not seeing 'conservatives' as outraged (except for what fox news tells to be outraged about) as most liberals are.

g.o.p.-teabaggers, go ahead and try privatizing medicare or social security at your political peril! Your stay in the house majority will be short-lived come Nov. 2012! non-stop racism delivered g.o.p. only one-half of one-third control of gov't back in Nov. '10. I'm not too optimistic they will get anything worthwhile done for their constituents. this current batch of cowardly republican-teabaggers (& a few conserva-dems) are going to work for a change instead of going on their endless golf excursions. This 111th congress is going to provide non-stop entertainment for all americans!

WHY OUR REPUBLICANS KEEPING THEIR TAX-PAYER SUBSIDIZED LIFE_TIME HEALTHCARE PLAN WHILE AT THE SAME TIME TRYING TO DENY A SIMILAR HEALTHCARE PLAN FOR THEIR OWN CONSTITUENTS IN THEIR OWN DISTRICTS OR STATES? OKAY, YOU A__HOLES DO NOT LIKE 'OBAMACARE'...ALRIGHT THEN, LET'S CHANGE IT INTO A SINGLE-PAYER/ UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE COVERAGE AND BE DONE WITH IT?!

G.O.P. DOUCHEBAGGERY & HYPOCRISY IS NEVERENDING!

2. It is as if they are grooming their low info followers to be long term supporters
by filling their heads with bull****. Said supporters will never find a narrative that resonates with them in liberals what with the founding fathers fighting against slavery and all. The right wing just keeps their followers away from the dems this way.
