After Benjamin Netanyahu met Mitt Romney earlier this month, I wondered whether he'd meet every Republican hopeful making his way through Israel, even as his relationship with Obama grows chillier and chillier.
The answer, so far, is yes: Netanyahu met Mike Huckabee yesterday. There seems to be some difference of protocol, though: Huckabee didn't get a statement and photo on the prime ministerial website, and Romney didn't have to share his photo op with Jon Voight, who joined Huckabee at the ribbon cutting for new construction in East Jerusalem.
Huckabee's regional allies, who were overseeing the ceremony, are notably committed to expanding the Jewish area of Jerusalem, something critics see as an impediment to partitioning the city in a negotiated settlement. His view:
"It is inconceivable in many ways that we would have to even argue and debate whether or not Israelis could live in Israel, not just in parts of Israel but anywhere in Israel they wished to live," Huckabee added. "I cannot imagine as an American being told that I could not live in certain places in America because I was Christian, or because I was white, or because I spoke English. I would be outraged if someone told me that in my country, I would be prohibited and forbidden to live in a part of that country, for any reason."
