1. The neo-cons and neo-liberals are jumping before they
are pushed. This is hysterically funny.
From the cradle of civilization to my ears and heart - go Egypt, Go Tunisia, go Jordon!!

10. He was pushed. Thousands marched in Jordon also
demanding his resignation. The story was obliterated by the Egyptian Revolution.

But that was quick. I know the King has been pushing his government to get reforms in place FAST!

Revolution is in the air and all the authoritarians are shivering in their Bruno Maglis.

Times are changing ~ and if it rids the world of the neocon New World Order crowd, it will be a blessing.

24. King Abdullah isn't summarily disliked, though, so it's
not exactly the same.

Granted, the people of Jordan may want a democracy instead of a kingdom, but they don't hate Abdullah.

14. I admit, I got carried away. You're 100% correct but I believe he's next
He's pulling a Mubarak, firing his underlings as if they were the problem.

Did you read the article about the "speedy" (I kid you not, "speedy") reforms he pushed through overnight, the day before the protests were to start, and the weasly way that he shifted the blame for anything that could have gone wrong on his cabinet. He promised sudden investigations, trials, whatever it took to save his hide.

I don't think the people are falling for it.

Jordan king urges speedy reforms ahead of Friday’s demos

By ABDUL JALIL MUSTAFA | ARAB NEWS

AMMAN: Jordan’s King Abdallah on Thursday urged the government and the parliament to speed up "comprehensive" political, economic and social reforms.

The monarch’s remarks came 24 hours before a coalition of opposition parties, trade unions and activists said they planned to stage demonstrations after Friday prayers to press their demand for genuine reforms.

...

On Thursday he warned against taking the king as a cover-up for wrongdoings. "I don’t want to hear someone says that he has directions from the head."

King Abdallah referred to complaints by some deputies and editorialists that ministers resorted to the king’s protection to justify their bad performance.

19. Not just to save his hide
To allow his corrupt family to continue like a monarchy.
I found it hilarious listening to MSN on Sunday when someone mentioned this family business at the helm. Apparently they forgot Father Bush, son Bush and hope to be President other son Bush.

Queen Youtube went silent

As you know, Queen Youtube of Jordan uttered a few words about Tunisia on Twitter (only that "we are watching developments in Tunisia") before she was silenced by a large number of angry Arabs who wrote her back, mockingly. They urged her to watch developments in Jordan. She has not tweeted about Egypt. How cute.

4. Like I *just* posted on another thread,
the events in Egypt will be felt far and wide.

I wonder if our ruling elites are watching this? If it can happen in Egypt, it can happen here, too.

13. I'm glad the ruling elites are seeing this and I agree -- they especially are
paying attention. From the people around me, I'd say 19 out of 20 aren't, and they're not even very interested because it's 'over there'. Sad because Joe America could learn a few lessons on how to get it done. Talk about taking back your country! :7

16. I hope so but where are they watching it?
40% of Al Jazeera's traffic for this came from the US so that's a great thing but what percentage of Americans went to Al Jazeera for the truth?

I think the ruling elites were glued to Al Jazeera but were enough people? I hope so.

Who 'da thought that the downtrodden people of Egypt, seemingly thoroughly cowed, could rise so fast and strong? It's how these things happen and the rulers never see it coming, such is their hubris. So ours will depend upon so-called exceptional ism and think our people lazy and sheep while they push and push and suddenly one push is too many....

It can happen here.

21. Jordanian dictatorship ought to go too
Hopefully the Jordanian dictator will go next. Jordanian "royalty" was imposed on the Jordanian people by the British. That family isn't even from Jordan, they're Saudis.

15. Which is why they yanked the Al Jazeera feed
America loves the myth that chance comes peacefully, with no one dying, just holding hands and singing songs, hope, change and wait forever style.

Al Jazeera showed the fight it took. They don't want people to see what it really took and reproduce that.

The milquetoast way protests are in the US right now, suits them just fine.

20. It's funny how much history SOME Americans willfully disregard
Some American's live in this fantasy world that twists the facts and, as we know here, that if those twisted realities are repeated enough, THEY become the truth.

America was born on the back of lots of dead bodies, slavery ended on the backs of lots of dead bodies. It seems after the Civil War, America started forgetting the lessons the revolution and civil war taught us.
