So would Obama Sign a DADT Repeal?
Edited on Sat Dec-18-10 11:26 AM by Still a Democrat
Given the recent revelation he is a conservative, and the long time musing about how he drags his feet on the issue and speculation about how much he wants it repealed, I wonder why there's a broad assumption here he would approve the repeal?

2. Apparently, you have not been listening.
This is how President Obama wants DADT to end. He has said it many, many times. To suggest that he would veto such a bill is specious. He will sign the repeal bill with great relish.

But, you knew that, didn't you?

Because people around here have been saying the exact same thing, seriously, for months.

a very long time. I guess I'm weary of it, you know.

32. Apparently you haven't been following the weight of opinion on DU

I'm a DU reader, so I know Obama opposes gay marriage and he lies about being a "fierce advocate" to dupe gay donors into contributing to his campaigns.

You should try reading this site sometime.

39. Then you would know

...that the only reason the DoJ appeals the DADT cases is because of Obama's deep-seated hatred for gay people.

6. Of course he'll sign it
just because he was not a "fierce advocate" in ending DADT doesn't mean he won't do what is good for him politically. 10%+ of Democratic voters are gay. He can count

And I, for one, had it up to here (gestures at a high place) with all of the crap slung at Obama by those ostensibly on our side on this.

38. Oh I have followed this closely on DU

Therefore I know that Obama hates gay people and only uses the "fierce advocate" line to dupe gays out of campaign contributions.

Following DU closely for the last two years, you learn a lot of things like that.

If it can be pocket-vetoed he might let it die that way. Barring that....

20. It wouldn't surprise me.
He was out pushing for the public option when he had already traded it away early in the health care "negotiations."

See my other post on how I think he might be able to sign the law and effectively veto it anyhow.

22. Others of the "Obama is a conservative" crowd
are assuming he will sign it, because he said he would. They also supposedly don't trust him to keep his word. So why do they assume he'll sign it? (Answer - they know he's isn't conservative)

They'll be proven false when he finally signs a repeal of DOMA, or STOPS BLOODY APPEALING DECISIONS STRIKING DOWN ANTI-GAY LAWS, whichever comes first.

28. Geez, it must hurt so badly that Obama did this, did it HIS way and is gonna get credit for it.
And there is absolutely nothing you can do to spin it into a negative that has any merit. Zero, zilch, zip. DADT it being repealed and Barack Obama plotted the course to make it so and it worked. Thats the truth and thats the way history will report it from now till forever more.

27. Well I am pretty damned mad at Obama over myriad issues, but I will still celebrate
this victory. It has been a long time coming, and should have been repealed immediately. Kudos to our president if he can at least get this done.

34. sure, just remember though, repeal under this legislation is not immediate
and what one Congress does, another Congress can undo. Most countries with non-discrimination policies against homosexuals in their militaries got there through their judicial system. Because what courts do, legislatures find exceedingly difficult/impossible to undo.
