Are DUers watching that massive crowd in Tahrir Square
My fear is that the real trouble will begin away from the square by the State TV station or the Presidential Palace.

6. They have answered Dennis Brown's question
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0wx_-dOnfg&feature=related

Do you know what it means to have a revolution?
And what it takes to make a solution?
Fighting against oppression
Battering down depression

Are you ready to stand up and fight the right revolution?
Are you ready to stand up and fight it just like soldiers?
Many are called, few are chosen
Many are called, few are chosen

Got to fight the right fight in this time

Are you ready to stand up and fight the right revolution?
Are you ready to stand up and fight it just like soldiers?
Many are called, few are chosen
Many are called, few are chosen

If you wanna live a, live a, live a, live a, live, live forever
You got to love a, love a, love a, love a, love, love each other
Say you gotta live, live, live, live on, live on forever
And love, love, love, love, love, love one another

Got to fight the right fight in this time

Living and loving and sharing and caring

A man is paid according to his work

Say we gotta live a, live a, live, live, live, live on forever
Love, love, love, love, love, love each other
We got to live, live, live, live on, live on forever
And love, love, love, love, love one and other

Living and loving and sharing and caring, well

Revolution, revolution
Revolution, revolution
Revolution, revolution
Revolution, revolution

One day, perhaps, the slumbering people of the United States of America will learn about democracy from the brave people of Egypt.

US are a bit under the average though, I would say.

But I like that point. When people of the world rise up together , things will really change.

16. I'm betting that the real stand off will be the State TV station
and I don't see how the demonstrators can lose there - just the numbers.
What's more word is that some senior army men have joined the demonstrators. If the Youth of the Revolution seize the TV station it's over unless the army open fire and then all hell breaks lose.

The demonstrators have no intention of backing down - they have won every small battle so far.

17. Power To The People......
Edited on Fri Feb-11-11 07:11 AM by global1
Just some observations:

If the people can only continue to turn out in such ever increasing numbers and do it peacefully.

Are we watching a textbook example of how to hold a revolution?

How can an army of men turn against their own people? The army comes from the people. They are the sons, fathers, uncles, friends of the people. (I'm assuming here that the army is all male - if it includes females then they are also the daughters, mothers, aunts and friends of the people too).

People of Egypt - keep the pressure up on the government.

The governments/dictatorships of the other Middle East countries have a vested interest in wanting Mubarak to win here - so as to show their respective people that they won't let this happen in their country. BUT - such a revolution can virtually happen anywhere where the people are angry enough.

Seems to me that the people have the momentum on their side. There's more of them then there are of the government/army. Seems to me that this is the worry and the actual realization that all governments have. They only know how to oppress (bully) their people and the realize that if they can't keep that oppression (bullying) on their people that they are grossly outnumbered.

How do you take down a bully? You stand up to them. That is what the people of Egypt are doing and they are teaching other oppressed (bullied) people around the world.

If the government turns on the people and resorts to violence - it can totally turn the world's sentiment against them and they would lose support.

It appears to me that it is a no-win situation for the government (in this case Mubarak) and if he wants to save face and not be disgraced - he needs to step down.

The people of Egypt have the carrot of democracy/freedom just within their reach. We are watching history being made before our eyes. Even if a rogue government tries to hijack Egypt - the people know how to deal with them. They wouldn't tolerate anything less than democracy/freedom.

Power to the People!!!!!!!

As an aside. How do governments counteract this? Hmmmm......

Maybe by keeping the people divided - do ya think? As long as you can have the people 50/50 or as close to that as possible - the government can maintain some semblance of control. Sound familiar? Use the media to maintain that control - Hmmmm.... sound familiar?

Another observation on Egypt. Think back at who were the first to flee the country as this uprising started to take flight?

The wealthy of Egypt - right. They saw the balance starting to tip against them. They're only as strong as their government is and when the illusion of protection looked like it was fading - they fled. They're in bed with the bullies maybe - Hmmmm.....

Really watching Egypt has been really educational.

Message to Oppressed people all over the World: Learn - baby - Learn.
