Oh My!Arrest warrant for Pervez Musharraf over the assassination of opposition leader Benazir Bhutto
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-south-asia-12438702
<snip>
A Pakistani anti-terrorism court has issued an arrest warrant for former military ruler Pervez Musharraf over the assassination of opposition leader Benazir Bhutto in 2007.

Prosecutors say he was aware of Taliban plans to target her but did not act to prevent her murder in Rawalpindi.

They accuse him of failing to provide adequate security for the former PM.

Mr Musharraf - who lives is a self-imposed exile in London - denies the allegations.

The West does love to accommodate these wealthy dictators/aka Western puppets.

2. Musharraf says he's not returning to Pakistan
to answer the charges.

Let's see if that extradition treaty thingy works only one way.

7. Well at least Obama started out in the middle and then
moved to the protesters' side, but the real hawks, neo-cons,etc. are still bawling for Mubarak.
Last night hubby said he found it amazing that the same people who are screaming don't tread on me do not support rights for anyone who differs with their worldview.

All of the contradictions of both capitalism and this so called liberal democracy are visible. The future will either be a new form of democracy or fascism. It's in our hands but the Egyptian people have shown us what happens when we are no longer afraid.

20. I like Obama's foreign policy
I know he has his (big) flaws on the domestic front, but the good news from Egypt, Jordan, Saudi-Arabia (first party has filed for royal approval there) and now Pakistan is a huge feather in Obama's cap.

And yes, I know that Mrs Clinton deserves even more credit, so let's just agree that she is doing a sterling job here and away.

(Especially when you take into account all the Neo-Con radicals that still clutter their staffs!)

11. Cheny spoke last week

http://theimpolitic.blogspot.com/2011/02/cheney-mubarak-not-so-bad.html
<snip>
Crawling out from under some undisclosed rock, Dick Cheney lectures us on loyalty to our friendly dictators:

But Mr. Cheney said that from the standpoint of American interests, while democracy and freedom in other countries were to be celebrated, they were not the only important issues. On other fronts, he said, Mr. Mubarak had long helped the United States.

“He’s been a good man, he’s been a good friend and ally of the United States,” Mr. Cheney said. “We need to remember that.”

Sadly, he's right. It's not like we're so pure. The US has a long history of supporting repressive regimes when it suits our purposes. And really, how many dictators are willing to do our dirty work for us on secret renditions?

15. I meant on the Pakistani General.... remember
the guy on DU that did the timeline thing on 911
just reporting what newspapers had hidden in the back
sections and didn't get any heading by the 'news'?

The whole Pakistani/Afghanistan timeline was blown apart
and the generals participation on it.
I do hope 'the news' will not have enough guilt
to report the news now.

14. Here's one.
" After September the 11th, 2001, President Musharraf understood that he had to make a fundamental choice. He could turn a blind eye and leave his people hostage to the terrorists or he join the free world in fighting the terrorists. President Musharraf made the right choice for his people and America appreciates his leadership."

9. Really? Musharref AND the Taliban? Were Satan and Brainiac in on it too?
More likely Musharref and the Secret Police and many of the guilty are still in power.

So...It was the Taliban. Of course.

22. Yes. I still show the video to people and watch their reaction.
I remember when it happened, I was reading Bhutto's book, writing about Afghanistan and ISI connections at Dkos. Many people thought I was off my rocker. I also shared the video with an author I know that had met Bhutto when she was at a speaking engagement in N.C..
