How Many Seniors Will Be Homeless If Texas Cuts Medicaid?
http://myhealthcafe.com/how-many-seniors-will-be-homeless-if-texas-cuts-medicaid

As state governments across the country are grappling with painful cuts to balance their budgets, Medicaid, the federal and state health insurance program for low-income Americans, may be among the hardest hit, and as a result many seniors in long-term care may have to find somewhere else to live.

Why? Medicaid is the country’s largest public payer of long-term care, paying for about 40% of U.S. long-term care spending total, so any cuts to Medicaid directly affects the the long-term care of thousands of American seniors as nursing homes are forced to cutback or close altogether. So for example, one Texas nursing home owner contemplates the possible cuts to Medicaid in her home state:

Rather, she’s most scared for the 92 elderly residents that she says would be left homeless if current budget proposals to cut funding for Medicaid are signed into law.

“We’ve had our ups and downs in terms of funding,” Evans said of the 15 years she and her husband have owned the nursing home, about 60 miles south of the Capitol. “This by far is the most scary for me in all the years I’ve been in this profession.

4. They don't care.
They did it to the mentally ill in the 80s, why not the elderly in the 10s?

3. Well, that depends...
How many bridges does Texas have that they can live under? Maybe they can attach some Republican-style hooks to them.

You know...to help them pull themselves up by their own bootstraps.

5. Look for the crazy bastard PA republican governor Corbett to also eliminate Medicaid. His party
controls both the state senate and house.

6. It's terrible
but honestly, what did people think they were voting for when they were voting for repukes? Of course not every elderly person voted them in, but the people that did are supremely selfish bastards.

7. Doesn't matter. DUers want everyone punished in "red" states, regardless of vote.

8. That's simply not true.
A few post such things and when they are, they are called on it.

9. Ah, so you didn't like the broad generalization?
Neither do we older people who keep getting blamed.

And, NO, they get away with it just fine.

10. I've seen threads/posts in which "older people"...
are blamed, but those DUers are generally called on it, as well. I'm not a fan of the labels I often see used: Gen This, Gen That, Millenial, Peter Pan, Greatest, blah, blah. The lower- and middle-classes are being fucked, regardless of age.

11. Having been blasted so many times, I have given up trying to be "correct.
Maybe when people are on the receiving end, they will GET. IT.

And, no, they are NOT widely disputed. I repeat... they keep getting away with it.

Thank you for caring how it hurts to be targeted that way.

12. I'm not sure what it's going to take to get people in this country to "get it"...
because the division fomented by Corporate Media, politicans, many religious leaders, et al. is working all too well.

13. Well, if DUers are buying into that shit, then they really have no excuse.

Its not like there isn't plenty of accurate information here for them to availl themselves of.

Edited to say...obvioulsy I don't think its the information... I think it is sheer lack of compassion and ability to put oneself in the shoes of others. DU is rife with that, sadly.

14. BS ... I'm a DUer in a red state ... NC ...
And I fight to move us to the left.

But ... if my fellow NCers vote in these right wing idiots (over say a even a BLUE DOG), I know what kind of pain I will get as a result. I chose to live here. No one makes me live here.

And so, if the other residents of this state vote STUPID, I am not surprised, and I am not ticked when others from the left point out that which I already know. NC has too many stupid voters.

If you are a DEM, or a liberal, living in the South, you have decided to be fighting on an up hill slope. And at times, your neighbors will give you a government that your state sadly, "deserves".

To bitch about this is to not understand reality.

15. And Ms. Evans isn't likely to get a large helping response from "progressives", either.
As long as it is done by a D president, the deaths don't matter.

Good luck, Ms. Evans.
