Sacramento police experiment with "Hot Spot Policing"
SACRAMENTO, CA - The Sacramento Police Department say they are putting something called "Hot Spot Policing" to the test. It is a way to tackle crime with fewer resources.
The goal, police say, is to make officers highly visible in geographic zones that suffer from chronic high crime.
"Hot Spot Policing" is based on a 1995 Minnesota study that found this type of location based policing to be more effective.
Police say officers will travel between high-crime zones at random, staying in each for short durations.
