Jeff Sachs says tax the rich - "Do we need to have our own Egypt? Two center-right parties"
Edited on Tue Feb-15-11 01:18 AM by Hannah Bell
I'm sort of flabbergasted: Jeff Sachs tells it straight.

"Both parties on the take -- campaign-financing games -- we're playing games on our budget"

"The rich have had twenty years of the greatest boom this world has ever known, there's more wealth in this city than one could conceivably count, more billionaires, more people that have sheltered all their income..."

Jeff Sachs is one of the authors of economic shock therapy: I wonder what's up with him? As another poster says, Why now? When did he get religon?

Jeffrey David Sachs (pronounced /ˈsæks/; born November 5, 1954, in Detroit, Michigan) is an American economist and Director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University. One of the youngest economics professors in the history of Harvard University, Sachs became known for his role as an advisor to Eastern European and developing country governments in the implementation of so-called economic shock therapy during the transition from communism to a market system or during periods of economic crisis.

I think it must have something to do with his new job: Director of the Earth Institute

2. Yes, I am surprised to see that he said this too...
I wonder if some of the elites are getting worried. Is that possible?

4. The lack of drama in Sachs presentation just exponentially multiplies the power of what he's saying.
Great clip.

5. Thought I'd read in Shock Doctrine that he'd 'seen the light' some time ago
or am I mixing him up with someone else?

6. Maybe, don't remember. Doesn't say anything about it in his wikipedia bio.
Looks like he's pushing the Gates-Buffett-Rockefeller ag program -- reading the same source. That would explain his remarks on food prices at the end of the show -- talking up the weather causes but failing to mention the speculation aspect.

I'd guess he's onboard with carbon trading too, based on his remarks on energy.

So still acting as the mouthpiece for a certain faction of capital.

I don't trust sachs any further than i could throw him, so i look for his motives for saying these things on bloomberg.

9. Interersting timing...
Nothing like a few, good old fashioned revolutions by the working class to focus the minds of the greedy pigs, eh?
