...To talk of many things. Of shoes-and ships-and sealing wax-of cabbages and kings-and why the sea is boiling hot and whether pigs have wings...
So I last posted a complete (semi) thought on the death of my Mom about two weeks back. I could not post back to the tremendous outpouring of love that so overwhelmed me. Thank you each and deeply and I cannot say enough of how deeply your postings helped. This was my only solace and it was by far enough.
So thence to just a few political thoughts:
1. Entitlements-what on earth allows Clarence Thomas to openly violate Federal law not just once, but serially in terms of federal disclosure laws regarding income-just this once let us not urge impeachment-but rather full criminal prosecution. We have lost our very souls looking forward. Just this one time let us hold our administration's feet to the fire and demand that just ONE (and the first of many) malefactor pay for federal crimes. Censure is not enough and neither is impeachment. Until these sociopaths face the co-equal punishment to what we routinely mete out to crack-whores there is no chance of national redemption...Entitlements THEY talk about are actually what we have already paid for, the entitlement they assume for themselves are a guaranteed good-old-boys rich legacy and an unquestioned get out of jail free card...
2.The Patriot act must die. There must be either a presumption of innocence or never such a presumption and I recall what the constitution says. If violations at whim are ever allowed and no matter in what circumstance, then the whole is a catch phrase and not a rule. ANY search of any kind without warrant is a whim. In a "24" scenario (which has never been shown to exist) legal prosecution could be abandoned in favor of national security. But if you bite the apple, you own the core.
3.Mean Jean Schmidt is hoist upon Dennis Hastert's petard. How long will actual treason demonstrated by payoffs by foreign governments to buy congressional votes be ignored? Just how much cash does it take before the selling of votes to lobbyists become important?
4.Then there is this, the military budget is theft from every American. When they say "billion" they mean $3 from each American THIS year and when they say "trillion" they mean $3000 dollars from each American THIS year. Got a wife and two kids? Do the math. If we had "just" 100 nuclear tipped ICBMs and 2 nuclear subs, and 10 strategic bombers, who would attack us? The Chinese to collect from a debtor? The Russians to commit suicide? End the madness now. A minimal force used as a standing army and to meet NATO and UN peacekeeping minimums is enough. Let the defense contractors compete on an international and unsubsidized basis.
5.And finally walk gently among all the people of the world. We have no imperative nor moral distinction to allow a projection of power unilaterally past our shore. Raise all and leave none in poverty or despair. Let our least have a parity for the "pursuit of happiness" equal at least to our elected officials. Food, housing, healthcare, and a living wage. Less is a national disgrace.
These are my thoughts as I return to the forums I have missed. Thank you all.
