The Progressive: "President Obama reveals that he cares little about the poor and working class"

Obama’s budget forsakes the poor
By Kevin Alexander Gray
February 16, 2011

With his latest budget, President Obama reveals that he cares little about the poor and working class in the United States.

Obama’s budget would make the lives of millions more difficult, and it would lower their horizons significantly.

.... as far as helping poor and working people advance, this budget actually kicks the ladder down. It freezes or reduces funding for everything from Head Start, summer jobs for youth and afterschool initiatives to GED programs and Pell grants.

Less than two months after signing $858 billion in tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans into law, Obama is abandoning many of the neediest, proving that they have gotten precious little from his administration beyond the symbolism of his presence in the White House.

4. President Obama Should Be Ashamed of His Budget

Obama Should Be Ashamed of His Budget
By Laura Flanders
February 16, 2011

“This freeze would cut the deficit by more than $400 billion over the next decade, bringing this kind of spending -- domestic discretionary spending -- to its lowest share of our economy since Dwight Eisenhower was President. Let me repeat that...."

That was our president announcing his 2012 budget.

...Domestic spending will be at its lowest level since Dwight Eisenhower?

We should be ashamed to let our president get away with this. And he should be ashamed of proposing it.

11. Obama brags that domestic spending will be the lowest since Eisenhower.
Unfortunately, food, shelter, transportation, education and everything else costs a lot more for American families today. There is another post today about prices and life in those good old days. If you want to bring back Eisenhower budgets, bring back nickel candy bars and livable wages while you are at it.

It doesn't work to bring back 1950s era budgets with today's unemployment rates.

24. If only we had some compassion for the poor, in bizzaro world all compassion goes to billionaires
Do we not bleed when cut and can't see a doctor?
Do we not weep when we live in boxes and cares?
Do we not freeze to death when our heat money is given as tax break gifts to the wealthy?

are we not people to Obama?

10. Here:
Food stamp budget increased

Budget Analysis

President Obama’s FY 2011 budget proposal released February 2010 makes important new investments in federal programs that support food security and income security. In light of the ongoing recession and the growing need for nutrition program supports, it anticipates substantial continued caseload growth for SNAP/Food Stamps, school meals, and the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program, but it also boosts program participation and benefits, in targeted ways, above those driven by the economy alone. Most notably, the budget also provides $10 billion over the next ten years for Child Nutrition Reauthorization and acknowledges that reauthorization will play an important role in meeting the President’s goal of ending childhood hunger by 2015.

7. What
"The nation’s first black president, a man whose own single mother depended on food stamps to feed her family, is willing to ditch the poor."

...a crock of shit!

President Obama keeps promise, creates "first major federal antipoverty effort in decades"

Obama's budget and low-income families, head start, homelessness

President Obama's Federal Strategic Plan to End Homelessness (updated)

<...>

  • To support implementation of the Homeless Emergency Assistance and Rapid Transition to Housing (HEARTH) Act signed into law in 2009 by President Obama, the FY 2012 budget proposes a nearly $580 million increase in homeless assistance funding for the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) compared to FY 2010 to continue the work begun under the Recovery Act-funded Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program, increase investment in evidence-based models (such as Housing First), and support local planning and coordination efforts. These investments will create long-term savings in the costs of addressing homelessness while reducing the number of people who become homeless. The FY 2012 Budget includes $2.37 billion for Homeless Assistance Grants, up from $1.865 billion in FY2010 and $2.055 billion in FY2011.

  • As part of Opening Doors' goal to prevent and end Veterans homelessness by 2015, the President's Budget proposes additional vouchers for HUD-VASH (a program jointly administered by HUD and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) at a cost of $75 million. The HUD-VASH program combines tenant-based voucher assistance with case management and clinical services tailored to Veterans and their families. Public Housing Agencies (PHAs) that have been awarded HUD-VASH vouchers develop critical partnerships with VA Medical Centers to help homeless Veterans find and maintain permanent supportive housing.

  • In addition to the HUD-VASH vouchers, the President's Budget underscores the Administration's commitment to ending Veterans homelessness by investing $939 million to continue the expansion of VA services for homeless and at-risk veterans (increasing targeted homeless assistance funding for Veterans by 75 percent).

  • HUD and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will combine 7,500 Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers in combination with $16 million in HHS funding to serve individuals and families experiencing chronic homelessness, which are two of Opening Doors' signature initiatives. Health Care for the Homeless programs would also receive an $87 million increase over FY 2010 levels to $258 million.

  • The Budget also invests in Mental Health and Substance Abuse Prevention Efforts by including $154 million for behavioral health supportive services for individuals and families experiencing homelessness with mental and substance abuse disorders to transition into permanent supportive housing.

8. K&R because it is true.
If Obama wants to serve the nation, he needs to fire his economic advisers and start over with economic advisers who care about America and Americans. Geithner cares more about the Chinese and the Indians than he does about Americans. And that is the God's truth.

Timmeh doesn't care about the Chinese and Indians either.
Timmeh hearts the investor class. The rest of us are expendible serfs to him.

19. The article is not quite correct.
"With his latest budget, President Obama reveals that he cares little about the poor and working class in the United States."

In reality,
President Obama "revealed" THAT with THIS:
