Great LTTE about the need for the rich to pay higher taxes:
Edited on Sun Feb-20-11 02:31 PM by The Velveteen Ocelot
My family has a combined household income just above that taxable $150,000-per-year joint household income threshold that everyone is citing in reference to Gov. Mark Dayton's budget proposal....

We would be happy to pay higher taxes if it meant regaining Minnesota's former position as a leader in education, worker skill, pristine natural areas, clean air, excellent health and overall quality of life.

Those are the reasons we live here, and if the GOP wants to throw all of that away to appease its billionaire friends, then our state has become a sad place indeed.

It's not a question of whether we can afford these tax increases -- we can't afford not to have them. If my family can do it, then the millionaires and billionaires certainly can.

2. She has the proper mentality wrt taxes...
they are an investment in society and her quality of life, not something which is "stolen" from her.

3. I tell conservatives: Taxes are your American Greens Fees.
You frickin' pay to maintain the American playing field that hosts your business games.

4. That's my line, too. You're paying your club dues.
So now you get to hang out in the bar and use the swimming pool and the locker room.

10. Is it an exclusive club? Do only taxpayers get to play? I'm having a hard time understanding the
analogy...

6. Yeah, but. The letter writer says "raise my taxes" and "raise theirs, too"! I'd rather say....
"raise their taxes" but "lower mine".

7. Why?
If everyone says that then it isn't very productive is it.

I think it is more meaningful when someone is willing to say raise mine AND theirs.

Not very hard to advocate someone else should pay more.
