LANSING – Gov. Rick Snyder said he’s not interested in Wisconsin-style confrontation over collective bargaining, as hundreds of union members flocked to the Capitol today to oppose what they call anti-union legislation.
“We’re two very different states,” Snyder told reporters, adding that the bills are distracting from addressing the state budget and taxes.
“It’s about how we do collective bargaining to achieve a mutual outcome where we can all benefit and win together,” he said. “I believe that’s the atmosphere we have in this state, and that’s the approach I’m taking.”
Snyder said he supports legislation that would give emergency financial managers broader powers over cities and school districts in financial distress, including terminating employee union contracts in cased of bankruptcy.
That’s union-busting, union leaders said.
