Capitol Police Plan to Clear Building at 4; Civil Disobedience Planned

MADISON, WI (FDL) – The Governor of Wisconsin, Scott Walker, ordered the Capitol police to close the Capitol building at 4:00pm today, just a few hours from now. Protesters who have occupied the building for 14 days, with no arrests, have been prepared for this eventuality, and have devised a number of strategies to combat this. Tom, a graduate student who has been leading the continuous protests inside the Rotunda for several days, had a phone number written in black marker on his arm last night. When I asked him what it was, he explained it was the number of the lawyer who would help him out after he got arrested.

The Wisconsin State Journal described the potential actions today:

There were several indications late Saturday that some won’t walk out of the building when asked. Posters went up in several places announcing that three “non-violence training” sessions were scheduled for late Saturday night.

Also, organizers distributed instructions for those who choose to peacefully refuse to leave. Among the options listed was going limp and being carried out by officers.

“I will leave peacefully,” said Neil Graupner, one of the protest organizers, Saturday. “But I can’t speak for my friends.”

Another protester spoke to the crowd about what to expect Sunday and how to behave.

“Don’t fight with the people who carry us out tomorrow,” she told the crowd. “They’re not who our fight is with. It’s with Scott Walker and the people who support his bill.”

1. Very good comment - “Don’t fight with the people who carry us out tomorrow,” she told the crowd.

3. I heard they were going to do this
they say it's to clean the place but once out, the place can be locked down so no one can get back in. I would link arms and refuse to leave...period.

4. Please leave and come back tomorrow at 8
The police are not the enemy in this fight. Let's not make them one.

I mean he told us that was his main criteria.

14. Yep, but this is their test case IMO, push it as far as they can. Koch's and others
are cheering him on. This is definitely class war. We lose this and we've lost the country.

17. Too bad many Americans I bet think this is only about the protesters. This is
going to eventually effect everyone, union or not, management or line employee.

I have seen this happen.

So our guys in there must hold back. With the police on their side, they are winning. This is not the time to blow it.

a cops vs. mercenaries showdown.

34. CNN had a camera in there just at the top of this hour
and the reporter asked a protestor why he didn't want to leave just for one day so they can clean the building? He responded, "I've been here since it began and look around you, it does not stink, we made sure we kept it clean. It doesn't have to be closed to be cleaned!"

Then the CNN guy said the order still stands, back to you Jane,.......

I'm sure they just want to see violent arrests for their ratings.

Doesn't seem to matter, no one appears to be leaving or being forced to leave.

On, Wisconsin

31. Project Mayhem: Meanwhile, can a few people come and block
the governor's car? box him in so he can't drive away..... It will inconvenience him and maybe force him to stand outside in the cold while he waits for a limo or the city tow trucks to come and move the cars out of the way. Do this every day.

Someone can sneeze on his keyboard and office phone after he leaves. Cross the cables for his tv service.-- Deprogram the remote.

Put some colored food dye in his coffee.

Meanwhile someone else can jam or cause some interference with his blackberry signal. A waiter or waitress can accidently spill a pitcher of water or beer over it.

While he is waiting, someone else can come and dump 10 tons of snow in his driveway (or on his car).

Post an eviction notice on the Governor's Mansion. "Sorry, It's just not working out." Leave a couple copy paper boxes for him to pack up his stuff.

The garbage collectors can bypass his home for a month or two.

He can be pulled over and questioned for an hour or two as he matches the description of a reported con man.

His wife can lose some hair at the beauty salon (hey, it grows back). Switch out his shirts at the drycleaner to those that are extra small.

Just a few ideas.
