Louisiana governor plans cuts to education, health care
Edited on Thu Mar-03-11 03:38 AM by Hannah Bell
Louisiana Republican Governor Bobby Jindal has proposed deep budget cuts to education and health care for the poor. Thousands of residents will see needed services decimated, and hundreds of public sector workers stand to lose their jobs. Jindal will formally announce his budget proposal March 11. While pledging not to increase taxes on business, the governor is targeting higher education and health care—two areas of state funding that are relied upon by the working class and poor but neither of which are constitutionally mandated.

Louisiana is already home of some of the nation’s most extreme poverty and social distress; among a multitude of indices—education expenditures, food stamp participation, extreme poverty, life expectancy, homelessness, infant mortality—the state ranks near or at the bottom. As in the rest of the country, however, the state’s political establishment is preparing to exacerbate the situation by forcing workers and students to shoulder the burden of the state’s $1.6 billion deficit.

Heath care is also being targeted for cuts. Dating back to the Depression era and the reformist administration of populist Huey Long, Louisiana has had a state-run Charity Hospital system that provides medical services to the state’s most destitute, free of charge. Like the most basic social programs throughout the country, that legacy is now under serious threat.

The calls for education and health care cuts are only the opening shots of an extended austerity program. While details have yet to be announced, in August 2010, state Senate President Joel Chaisson indicated that the administration had already required all state agencies to submit budget proposals with 35 percent reductions for fiscal year 2012.

3. Eurghh. Louisiana's Medicaid program is the pits,
largely because care was available at the charity hospitals. New Orleans' "Big Charity" was never rebuilt after Katrina; NOLA has been muddling along with a patchwork system ever since. Looks like the rest of the Pelican State is about to follow suit.

Meanwhile, Booby is presumably forging ahead with his grandiose plans to build a gigantic medical center for LSU and the VA, mere blocks from the ruins of Charity and right on top of a low-income neighborhood that was just starting to come back post-K. :grr: :banghead:

7. Landover Baptist Church on Jindal
CHRISTIAN VOTERS GUIDE 2012

JINDAL

For:

Thanks to Bobby Jindal, former head of the Louisiana Department of Health, and current governor of Louisiana, Louisiana now rates number #1 on incentives for personal responsibility in health and safety:

Louisiana's high rates of obesity, infant mortality and preventable hospitalizations helped the state fall to 50th -- last -- in an annual state-by-state ranking of of overall health released today.

Obesity just shows how prosperous and Godly Louisiana has become with Bobby Jindal in charge:

He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in the LORD shall be made fat. -Proverbs 28:25

As for Louisiana's high infant mortality, that's because Louisiana babies are now so angelic that God goes there first every time he needs a new little angel.

Arguments for:
Sneers at wasteful spending, such as disaster preparedness
Refused Obama's stimulus money that would expand unemployment insurance

As former head of the Louisiana Department of Health, and current governor of Louisiana, he takes credit for Louisiana now rating number #1 on incentives for personal responsibility in health and safety

Hired the who's who of the anti-sodomite movement as advisors

100% Pro-Life voting record.

Supports the teaching of intelligent design in public schools.

Opposes embryonic stem cell research.

Supported making the PATRIOT Act permanent.

Supported a constitutional amendment banning flag burning.

Voted for the Real ID Act of 2005

Has an A rating from Gun Owners of America.

Supports co-payments in Medicaid (no more free ride).

Earned an environmental harm demerit from the RINO group Republicans for Environmental Protection.

Rated 7% by the eco-terrorist League of Conservation Voters, with anti-environment votes on 11 out of 12 "critical" issues.

Hindu-Christian converts who believe in demonic possession are very good Christians

Against:

Is brown
From a country with Muslims in it, which means he's probably a secret Muslim

Other factors:
Is an amature exorcist: Read his first-hand account of meeting a demon face to face!
