James Fogle, also known as the "Drugstore Cowboy," listens to his attorney Anna Samuel address Judge Dean Lum as Fogle is sentenced to 16 years in prison for the robbery of a Redmond drugstore in May 2010.

James Fogle, whose book "'Drugstore Cowboy" told the story of drug users who robbed pharmacies to feed their addiction, was sentenced Friday for the crime that made him famous -- pharmacy robbery.

Wheeled into the Seattle courtroom attached to an oxygen tank, Fogle, 74, hardly looked like the brazen robber described by the three Redmond pharmacy workers he attacked.

Fogle, it was made clear, is dying. Any sentence, his attorney remarked, is ultimately a "death sentence."

Still, Senior Deputy Prosecutor Amy Montgomery noted, Fogle with what life he had left he was able to terrorize three people and leave each with lasting emotional damage.
