It's not as Easy without the bulb
Politicians, it seems, have killed the traditional Easy-Bake Oven.

Collateral damage in the war on energy waste is none other than the classic children's toy Easy-Bake Oven, introduced in 1963 and an inductee in the National Toy Hall of Fame.

Millions of young chefs have used the toy to make tasty baked treats. It was made possible by the oven's heating element, a common 100-watt incandescent light bulb.

But starting next year, manufacture of such bulbs will be outlawed. It's the start of a 2007 federal law being phased in that requires light bulbs to be more energy efficient. The practical effect will be a ban on incandescent bulbs, which do not meet the requirement.

3. The girl who lived across the street from me had one

I "fixed" it to use a 3-way bulb so it had a self-cleaning setting...just like mom's real oven.

Whatever possessed my parents to think that allowing a 10 year old to have a soldering iron was a good idea, I'll never understand.

4. Oh the horror!!!!
I can't let my kids cook and get burned while I'm not looking.

My daughters have one of these things. Its awful. I taught my daughters how to use the actual oven.

In fact, my 11 year old made actual cookies earlier today. Safer and less work that that stupid "easy bake" thing.

8. They are already selling 98 watt bulbs
I guess to replace the outlawed 100 watt bulbs. 98 watt will probably work just the same.

10. They are energy efficient since they are using the heat from the bulb to cook.
As a heating element, the incandescent bulb is near 100% efficient.

12. Which also makes it a 100% efficient device to use in homes during the heating months!
I'm using CFLs till the LEDs get better, but still ... the waste from incandescents is heat and plenty of places need that (in which case, it isn't waste).

13. Dude! They work much better with a lit cigarette, rather than an annoying
old light bulb! And it will get them started on cigarettes at a much younger age!

A win-win situation!

:P

18. That gives me an idea - ban light bulbs in bars (where people are forced to go)
Cause those bulbs, more so than the manufacturing, cars, etc, are killing people :)
