Hell and Back - Film

Directors Statement (excerpt)

This morning I learned a photographer friend was severely wounded after stepping on a mine in southern Afghanistan. He lost both his legs and is in critical condition.

I’m flooded by feelings of rage, sadness, helplessness and isolation. I think of my friends and colleagues that have lost their lives while doing their job. It all seems utterly senseless.

Unless you have a personal connection, the war in Afghanistan is an abstraction. After nearly ten years since the initial invasion, the daily bombings and ongoing violence has become mundane, almost ordinary. It is tempting to become indifferent to the horror and pain.

1. Well I think there's a reason for indifference. I'm not the best at keeping
up with the M$M but I do not see a daily dialog or running documentary on the war in Afghanistan or Iraq. The most I've heard lately is what I regard as bickering about generals and funding. No mention of the drama, the real life drama, our present day wars engulf those presently fighting and those coming home with less than when they went; not to mention the drain on our treasury.

TPTB don't want an informed public...not good for their policies or war chests. imho

2. yup-PTB learned fr Viet Nam-don't show/talk about real
war
-thus, the journo's 'embedding' (talk about an incestuous term) in Afghanistan and Iraq, no footage on MSM of soldiers coming home in their coffins, bloody war ftg--when i was a kid I saw all of that on the 6PM news-very graphic images and it wasn't just a quick snippets of ftg...the Pentagon was not going to put up with that again after the consistent pressure put on them to end war by the 1960's protests, so GW Bush, Dick Cheney and Rummy made sure Americans were denied that evidence via MSM.

3. You're so right. I had forgotten about the incestuous embedding!
That was such a joke. I wish that the M$M would get our message! Except for a few very selected programs, I don't rely on tv for news. Al Jezeera looks better every day.
