8. When The President Campaigns For 2012 - What Will He Say This Time.....

How will he be believable? Seems to me is that the only thing he has going for himself is to show just how bad the Repugs have been when they had their chance at leading after the 2010 elections. In light of the recent events - he could point out what the Repug Governor's did in the states they lead. He can show what a phoney Boehner and his cronies are? He can point out the wacko Rep King and his Muslim witch hunt - but I don't know if he can make any promises of what he will do. I just don't think he would come off as being believable this time around.

I'm thinking he won't be campaigning to people like me - because despite all his flaws - I would vote for him again - just because I don't want the alternative. So who is he going to direct his efforts too? Independents? Disgruntled Repugs? Disgruntled Teabaggers? Who?

They drove out their "moderates" and put the fear of God in the rest to make them toe the radical right line.

The truth is, from a strategic standpoint, they succeeded in pushing the GOP about as far right as it's ever been - and they are still pushing. Sure, they blew some races by nominating nutcases so out of the mainstream they had no chance to win or didn't win elections they probably should have (examples: O'Donnell and Angle), but they don't care. To the Tea Party conservative movement, it is worth losing a few races in order to fundamentally create a more unified far right party - a party with elected officials they can count on to vote how they want.

How many times do some conservadems or DINO's give the Republicans cover by breaking with us? How many times could we have won votes if only we'd stick together on important issues and not lose a pile of Blue Dogs who throw their lot in with the GOP? Well, the Tea Party conservatives had that problem on their side of the aisle to, and they've set about weeding their unreliable folks out. We could learn a little from what they are doing. While the Tea Party is loathsome, its strategy of pushing an existing party in the direction they want it has been impressive. The grass roots, the most partisan conservatives are taking over the carcass of the Republican party instead of trying to create a new one.

Even stalwarts like Lugar, Hatch, etc, are not immune. If they don't toe the line, they get primaried, and if the Tea Party lose a few seats in the process then so be it.

I am not saying we should be like them, but even one's enemies sometimes come up with strategies worth emulating.
