1. Those are some BIG lab paws!
Nothing sweeter than snuggling with a warm yellow lab--good for her!

Comforting to see these photos. People need their pets! People NEED their animals! This is seriously important - especially in a time of crisis! That dog may be all she has left. Makes it even MORE important.

20. I have seen on TV that some people are allowed to get back into their homes
To retrieve things - but they are not allowed to stay due to concerns about the houses being safe for the long term. That is one possibility.

They have updated the caption, and corrected her last name.

Is this her dog too? If so, they were taken to separate shelters. Do you have any information.
It looks like her yellos lab in the video. Can you please help. Thanks.

if it's the injured dog in the video or not, but both dogs in the video seem to have some sort of (odd shaped) taggish thing on their collars. Hopefully an id of some sort.

55. Thank goodness for this at least. In every picture I have seen in which
people are holding their dogs, they are essentially holding on for dear life. Those beloved companions are probably doing more to keep these survivors grounded and functioning than anything else that is being done or that can be done.

I am horrified at the heartless way that evacuation plans in the US demand that people leave behind animal companions who are really part of the family. I am quite sure that many people have died terrifying, unnecessary deaths in US disasters, especially the awful ones (like Katrina) that we've had in the past few years, despite being offered a timely chance at rescue, because they could not bear to abandon their animal friends to die alone and frightened. I know I could never abandon my 4 cats, and I could not have abandoned the cats, ferrets, and dogs I have had before these pets that I have now.

I remember reading an article as people in Texas fled Hurricane Rita that describe Cuba’s evacuation process, which included pets and livestock as well as people. Say what you want about Cuba, but in many ways they could teach us a lot about taking care of everyone rather than just the elite few.
