CNN Propaganda
They just displayed the results of a poll which indicated 7 out of 10 Americans agree with the military action in Libya. WTF? The polls I've read reflect the exact opposite.

1. The Ed Schultz text poll tonight was grossly in favor too. I don't
remember exact numbers but something like 71% for 29% against.

2. If Ed is against it, then I'm sure he worded it in a way that drew that response.
He always seems to, anyway. "Do you think it's wrong to deny health care to poor people?" What the hell is ANYBODY going to say? Stuff like that. Do you remember how it was presented?

11. I just looked it up. Here's how it was worded:
DO YOU SUPPORT MILITARY ACTION AGAINST LIBYA?

At present, the poll results are: 65.6% Yes, 34.4% No

18. Well that's pretty straightforward. Don't know if it should be a surprise or not
because I honestly haven't even discussed it w/anyone except DUers and I don't have a sense of which side has more supporters here. Are you surprised?
Have you heard any other polls to indicate otherwise?

But what does surprise me is that the majority of viewers by far to Ed's show are liberals, I'd assume, except one time a poll was soundly freeped which was kind of funny - it was so obvious.

Randi was saying today that some will be against military action period, others are against it except when they feel it might be warranted, and within that "might be warranted" group the reasons are probably really all over the board.

It's quite an issue, I'll say that. And the Republicans! McCain is bitching because he thinks Obama waited too long (like it was solely up to Obama), Lindsey Graham is fried because we're not "leading the charge" or something like that. I think I heard Boehner, et al are mum because they can't say anything positive about Obama and support him, yet they can't go against Big Oil by saying we shouldn't be there. :eyes;

Crazy.

23. I'm baffled and dumbstruck! I haven't seen any other polls period
so I can't really comment on that. However, I'm living in a repub nest and no one has said anything, yea or nay! It's a stalemate because I don't want to say I'm not really in favor of military intervention, at this time anyway. I think it came down too fast to have considered the political ramifications within Libya (or this country, for that matter). OTH, I have great compassion for those who have suffered a despot's hand.

The decision making process is so convoluted. We have biases outside of the overt ones always thrown out in debates like we're having here. Many are subtle and very individualistic. Put that on top of the Libya matter and we have the grand-daddy of a debate. I don't know...I just don't know what to think. I don't really know who the rebels are nor do I know what their aspirations or motives could be.

What I do know is that there is a lot of heated discussion here on DU and that the CNN poll and the Ed Schultz' poll surprised me.

24. Well I think both Ed and CNN have more liberal viewers (although we think
CNN isn't liberal at all!) -- The Repubs all think CNN is part of the Left Wing Media. :7

You know, a lot of people (myself included) bought into Bush's BS about Saddam being in cahoots w/bin Laden, the whole WMD thing, the oppressed people, and it wasn't until we started learning the truth that we realized we'd been had. Maybe that will be the situation here, more information may come out that makes those of us who are supporting it change our minds. As always, I guess we'll just have to wait and see -- and hope for the best.

He just said so repeatedly. He wants Qaddafi removed and applauds the President for this.

21. Well the wording was pretty evenhanded, then. I would have guessed he'd
say something like "do you think we should help the people who are being massacred by Qaddafi?" or something pretty loaded like that.

I like Ed, I just laugh at his polls sometimes. Only one way to answer, usually, especially with a progressive viewership.

it's like a mirror image of a Faux poll.

But if that doesn't meet your definition I'm glad Gaddafi killing anyone and everyone suspected of protesting and/or rebelling against him more tolerable.

No need to futz definitions for PR shock value.

-on edit-

Ironically, the talk of tribes and tribalism is anathema to many of the youth who kicked off the Libyan uprising last month, partially by using Facebook and other social-networking sites. The slogan “No to Tribalism” is spray-painted across walls throughout Free Libya (the opposition name for the area outside of Gaddafi’s control). Many young protesters are eager to ditch customs out of sync with their 21st-century world view; but they’re also skeptical of the regime’s argument that the uprising will result in the country splitting across tribal lines. “We’re all one tribe. Gaddafi is just trying to scare people about a tribal war,” says Ayman Majdari, 28, a computer-science major.

Seems Gaddafi ain't the only one.

20. The problem with this comparison with great sadness
is the lives lost my American regression and remote control destruction.

Fact: If the West stays the course and Quadaffi prevails the Western powers will cause more collateral damage on both sides of the Libyan civil uprest than had Quadaffi prevailed.

I do not support Quadaffi but he is crafty and may have played the West.

The UNSC did not called for regime change. If regime change does not occur and relatively quickly and cleanly -- reasonable robust political sustem in place -- the situation is FUBAR considering the Natiosn that abstained nor vetoed the UNSC vote.

Hope Libya is over quick and in favor of freedom and best division of opportunity and wealth for the People of Libya.

Libya already had one of the highest GDPs per capita of any African nationa nd many Arab and Muslim but I do not know the distribution.

Clark actually seemed reasonable in his critiques. He pointed out that President Obama doesn't seem to be on the same page regarding what the UN resolution calls for.

15. The poll result is akin to the 87% of liberal Democratic party members are thrilled
rather than surprised by the policies, actions, and priorities of POTUS Obama.

This is as good as it gets, dear folks, let's get better.

I do think that SOS Clinton and others were more hawkish that POTUS Obama in recent ME events.

France pre-maturely recognized the rebels -- who are unclear to me anyway -- as the legitimate government. Then the rhetoric and actions have surprised. I am watching Quadaffi and the 5 UNSC that abstained as well as the Arab and African Leagues.

The collateral damage of innocents will likely be greater the longer the crisis continues and the longer Quadaffi remains in power (and the UNSC measure broad in scope does not address regime change).

There is much nuance and too much action in the ME and Mediterranean for comfort.

25. 70% of Americans also are tied to the military via some sort of investment types
It's not surprising to me all that 70% are "pro-war" at this point, nobody even knows what the object of the "war" is. Wait until their kids get sent there to enforce some boundary or some other invented excuse for militarism, blasting a country to pieces won't seem so palatable then.
