More than 100 Scottish landmarks and iconic structures will be plunged into darkness later as part of a global climate change campaign.

Edinburgh Castle, the Scottish Parliament building and the Falkirk Wheel, usually lit up at night, are among the landmarks marking Earth Hour.

About 130 countries around the world are expected to take part in the hour-long WWF event from 2030 GMT.

Last year 13 million people took part in the UK.

2. It's a great idea, and I will participate, but there's an odd message in darkening landmarks and the

lighting them back up again as usual after the hour is over. It seems to say: "we know we should not be using all this energy for this, but we're going do it anyway."

I guess the point is getting people to think about how they're using energy, and where it's coming from.

the city has a park half a mile from house, the lights that they leave on waaayyyyy past the time the park closes light up my front yard....I really am tempted sometimes to go over there and take them out with my .22

14. How 'bout Murcans turn off those horrid 1 million-watt gas station pad lights?

You know - those 22-pump stations that keep 100 ceiling lights on 24-hours and it looks like daylight outside all night? What a waste of energy. I asked a Speedway attendant one time why they have to have so many lights on. His answer? - "it is for safety reasons." Yeah - I'm real scary-looking.

Last year I enjoyed lighting a candle and experiencing the quiet darkness without the eternal hum of electrical appliances. It's a nice meditative state. Will be doing it again tonight.
