Train derailment in Newton Falls leads to evacuations

NEWTON FALLS, Ohio - Crews are on the scene of a train derailment in Newton Falls. Crews on the scene say that at least 97 cars have derailed.

An evacuation near the scene is now in place due to an ammonia leak from one of the tankers. A six to eight block radius near the Center Street bridge is being evacuated.

No one has been hurt and people being evacuated are being taken to the Newton falls Community Center.

only 7 cars derailed and 1-3 cars are leaning on the tracks and obstructing the road below, north canal and center street are block. St.rt. 534 is open and they reported that there is not a leak of ammonia, it was a precaution because the train was carrying it.
