As the US war against Libya proceeds apace, we begin to discern an all too familiar pattern here. The establishment of a No Fly Zone, the bombardment with missiles and bombs, air strikes on troops, the involvement with the CIA, and slowly, but surely, the insertion of ground troops. These steps are familiar, though the order has varied from one theater of combat to another.
But before too long, we're going to reach a tipping point, namely when American blood is spilled on foreign soil. When that happens, and it will happen all too soon, we're going to be stuck, for years, possibly decades, up to our waists in another quagmire.
And once again, we will be fighting a war with no discernible objective other than the vague notion of "regime change" or "nation building". Yet all the while the real objective is to use up material, spend vast sums of money, transferring, via the government, money from the poor, middle and working classes up the socioeconomic ladder to the wealthy elite.
That is what this war in Libya is about. That is what all of our wars, our military actions, from WWII until now have been about. Securing empire and resources, draining the populace in order to enrich the few. Eisenhower's warning about the dangers of the MIC were spot on, and we have paid a heavy price for ignoring them.
The US has been involved in over two hundred wars or military actions since the end of WWII. Ranging from Korea to Grenada, Guatemala to Vietnam, El Salvador to Laos, the list goes on and on. Doesn't matter whether the president has been Republican or Democrat, the carnage has continued. We have become death, destroyer of worlds.
And now, as if two active wars weren't enough to slate the greed and bloodlust of the wealthy elite, we're going into Libya. The signs are all there, the band has been struck up and we're in the opening steps of the dance. Where will it end, when will it end?
The plain fact of the matter is that our country will continue to decline, possibly even fall, unless we rein in our military, and the wealthy elite behind them. Until that happens, we will continue to slide down the slope to oblivion, spending our fortune, draining our people. It is time to put a halt to this madness, now. Otherwise we will fail, our country will fall. This is how empires have fallen, from the Soviet Union to Rome, by virtue of greed, and their infatuation with their military might. If we continue down this path, it is how our country will fall as well.
