Feeling uncertain about my future these days
Yesterday my husband called me to let me know that his manager and three other managers in the company had been let go. There is going to be a restructuring and any new hires are going to be getting paid $13/hr. Now this is a big red flag for me because Bob has been working for this company for five years now and when Bob started they had several levels of guys making an increasing salary.

A couple of years ago they increased the 1x guys like my husband to 2x and gave them a pay increase and all the upper level guys were put at 2x and had their pay decreased. Now I had mentioned the possibility of this happening to bob someday at the time when they gave him the raise. Now, granted, we are in a much better position than a lot of other people. Our house is paid off and we live simply. But I already buy my kids clothes at goodwill. We are just at the point that as long as no one gets hurt then we may be ok.

This is the american dream, I guess. My thinking is that bob's manager probably made too much and so they got rid of him. They didn't even offer him a position elsewhere. 30 years he gave this company. I guess at least he got a severance. But this is our country. You give your all to a company, help them grow and make great profits and then they just drop you like you are last weeks dinner. What kind of stability can anyone expect?

I worry about the future of our country. There is no reward for working your ass off for a company. I fear where we will be down the road. I have three girls and I worry about what things are going to be like for them. They just passed a budget cutting a lot from education. Now people like us who are not sure how our financial future will be..... how are we going to be able to ensure our kids have a decent future.

1. I think about this stuff too my friend
I have two kids 12 and 6. My wife is a teacher and I'm in business. Who knows what will happen to teachers in the next 5-10 years. At the rate we're going she may not have a job (to make it worse she's a music teacher.)

In business you can hit sales goals and strategic initiatives for years and then slip up and have a bad year. The wrong boss can say "Gee, Bob isn't good anymore" and that's it.

4. Yep, anyone who is paying attention knows that
the shock doctrine with all of it's ugliness is being played out in the US right now.
