http://www.omaha.com/article/20110409/NEWS01/704099829/-1#neb-dems-set-caucus-dateOMAHA, Neb. (AP) — The Nebraska Democratic Party will hold the state's second presidential caucus on April 14, 2012.
The date was announced Saturday on the party's website.
Nebraska Democrats decided to hold caucuses for the first time in 2008 in hopes of having a say in the national race while drawing people into the political process. Republicans stuck with the traditional May primary.
Until 2008's close Democratic primary race between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, presidential candidates had not typically campaigned in Nebraska. The sparsely populated state hasn't supported a Democratic presidential candidate since Lyndon Johnson in 1964. That's discouraged Democratic candidates from coming and made it unnecessary for Republicans to worry about winning here.
But Obama campaigned in Nebraska ahead of the 2008 caucus, as did Hillary Clinton's daughter, Chelsea.
