Gulf Of Mexico Devastation: Then and Now

In this two picture combo, a pelican is seen landing on a nest in a thicket of mangrove, May 22, 2010, on Cat Island, home to hundreds of brown pelican nests as well at terns, gulls and roseate spoonbills, as it was being impacted by oil from the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill, just inside the the coast of Louisiana.

The second photo, taken in the same spot on April 13, 2011, shows an egret landing on a nest where the mangrove has thinned out. Biologists from the Louisiana Department of Fish and Wildlife say Cat island is significantly eroded, with much of the mangrove dead or dying, reducing the amount of space for nesting...

1. Thank you (I think) for this link.
The worst part is that they still keep marching talking heads out in front of the camera to assert once again that no long term damage was done. The food is safe, the President went swimming, jobs are needed....ad nauseum platitudes aimed at people willing to believe.
