Does anyone here have a workshop?

1. I don't have a workshop, but I do have a Man Cave.

In it I play pool, darts, watch games in high def, smoke cigars, and generally commune with my male friends.

When my wife brings snacks or cocktails for us, she stops at the door until she is invited in. Sometimes we ask her to leave the snacks and/or cocktails outside the door.

I can't think her enough for keeping the Man Cave clean. My prize possession is an 85 year old Brunswick Pool Table and she keeps the felt SPOTLESS. She's a peach.

2. My man cave isn't so tidy.

The lumber rack. (Most of this was sawn from logs cut down to make room for this shed. A friend and I have a little sawmill at his place.) The best part of this rainy country is that an alder tree grows to useful size in about 20 years. I hate cutting logs into firewood.

I make boats.

In March, the above pile of plywood will look like this model. But 16 feet long.

These 19' boats were partially completed by us here in our shop before delivery to the client for his crew to finish. They are really gorgeous in real life. (This is his shop. You can tell because there's room to walk around. :D)

I built this CNC machine to cut out boat parts from sheets of ply. Improvisational, but it works well and does the work of a $30,000 machine.

This is a 1936 South Bend 9" lathe. I brought it home in buckets, derusted, repainted and built the stand. Works great.

The shop does double duty. I dislike crawling under cars. A lift improves my quality of life (and increases the working area).

5. I would probably trade my Man Cave for yours. What an awesome place.

I love working with my hands and your place makes my garage with nothing more than a floor jack and a Craftsman Rollaway look sickly by comparison.

Oh and I hope anyone who read my post knows that I was joking about my wife. She's welcome where I am and if it weren't for her, I wouldn't even have a Man Cave. Plus, if it needs cleaned in any way, she's usually telling ME to get it done.

7. I dunno. That pool table is nice.

When I was growing up, my family had a rec room and a pool table. I miss it. :hi:

3. I've got a few tools.

I have moved so many times, I've sold a number of machines. Ultimately I use my machines for prototypes. I've invented a number of things that I design and then whip up on the machines. So far nothing earth shattering. As it stands, I mostly use my machines for special tools when I do repairs on my tractor. But I now have a newer tractor. Right now I'm working on the Porsche. A very slow process. But I did need to make some tools for it.

My shop is really my house. I was building a house, but decided to wait until I get to the next property for the design I just finished. Besides my shop has a kitchen and bathroom. It's rather nice.

4. "Rather nice" indeed!

Is that a clausing lathe and a Logan 9" behind the computer? Love the old Chevy truck.

I spent quite a lot of time designing the shop.

That is a Lodge & Shipley AVS 1408 and a Deckel FP-3 mill. Two of my all time favorite manual machines.

The 928 is getting a timing belt, intake rebuild. It's a ton of work. Not to mention cost. Just the gaskets were a grand.

But the wrinkle black powder coat came out great.
