Netflix is changing their policy
Edited on Wed Jul-13-11 12:14 AM by NV Whino
I currently have 1 disk at a time and unlimited streaming for $11.99. As of September 1st they are splitting the options. (Or you can keep both at an increased price.)

1. 1 DVD/Blu-ray at a time $9.99/month.
2. Streaming only with no disks $7.99/month.

or
1 disk at a time and unlimited streaming for $17.98/month.

It's getting too pricey for my pocketbook. So I'm moving all the "must watch" disks to the head of the queue, and will drop disks altogether before Sept.

1. It makes sense. I mean, The reason to have both was always because not everything was available
for streaming. I got rid of the disks awhile ago simply because we weren't watching them and it seemed pointless once I realized I could do streaming only to just do it. My sister has both and actually watched the dvds too. 1 disk + streaming for $18 doesn't seem worth it. They'll probably drop the dvds too. I am betting a lot of people will.

2. I'd be happy if everything was streaming
Although that rather negates the Blu-ray player I bought.

4. I may be canceling mine
Either that or dropping the DVD option.

5. We've done streaming only
for a while now for the 7.99 price.

I've been happy with it, BUT I'm really PO'd about them now splitting series where 1/2 will be streaming and the other 1/2 will be discs only. :grr: They did this for ROAR, a little known dead ended Heath Ledger series that didn't make it. Fun, but I can only watch 1/2 of it. :P

6. Sounds like a negative incentive to switch to streaming.
We haven't gotten any movies in the mail in months....I'm sure Netflix would like to shed the brick and morter OH needed to support a DVD distribution model. A single datacenter streaming their product is the ultimate money machine for Netflix...as long as the status quo is maintained - ie content providers and ISPs cooperate.

7. here is an article online i just read regarding the changing prices.
it mentions increased licensing fees to stream movies which might explain the changing prices. and it links to a story on cnn regarding the situation, so it isn't just someone on the internet saying it.

here is what i read: http://inflammatoryremarks.wordpress.com/2011/07/13/netflix-vs-entitlement/

here is the cnn link: http://money.cnn.com/2011/07/08/technology/netflix_starz_contract/

9. Well, I understand that people need to raise prices on occasion
It's just that they've raised them beyond my budget.

8. I rarely watch anything through streaming
So it'll be cheaper for me to continue with our 3-disks only.
