Someone on a thread in GD made some assertions about recent history that I was able to debunk, and one reason is that I've seen this documentary about Henry Kissinger.
It goes into such nefarious deals as the overthrow of Salvador Allende in Chile in 1973 and the artificial prolongation of the Vietnam War, plus a lot of stuff you've never heard of.
I didn't know about a lot of this stuff while it was happening. I was in graduate school, living in a dorm with only one TV, and a fellow resident used to go crazy every time Kissinger appeared on the screen. "Lying motherfuckin' murderer" was one of the milder things he said.
I didn't understand why at the time, but I have since learned, and I now understand my fellow resident's reaction to someone who SO did not deserve the Nobel Peace Prize.
