Anyone have an idea about how to take rust stains out of a carpet?

We live in a rental with wall-to-wall Berber carpet. It was in BAD shape when we moved in and I spent a lot of time with the rug shampooer to get it back to pretty good shape. I even decided to BUY a home rug steam cleaner so that I could stay on top of the situation (we live on a muddy road and have a dog, so there's LOTS of dirt around.)

Anyway, my husband came home after one of my cleaning bouts and, while I was out, moved a wing chair back onto the still damp carpet. The metal on the bottom of the feet made two nice little rust stains. :(

We now want to move the chair to a different area and I don't want to look at the stains. Our landlords don't really care b/c we've already done so much improvement on the house at our own expense, but the little eyesores will drive me nuts.

Any ideas (preferably of an environmentally friendly nature)?

1. A couple of things to try...

Mix a little bit of salt into some lemon juice, and spray it onto the stains. Let it sit a few hours, then blot it up. Or, you could try a weak solution of Bar Keeper's Friend cleanser and water. If that doesn't work, you could resort to Carbona's "Stain Devils" for rust. You can find it with the laundry stain removers in many grocery stores.

3. I used the lemon juice trick and

followed up w/ some vinegar for good measure. Worked pretty well. Definitely took the stains from glaring to faint. I think another treatment might eliminate them altogether.
