Laundry Detergent findings.
If you are at all like me, you cringe at the price of Laundry detergent. I have, through the years, tried everything on the market. Some have been fine, like Tide. Others have been a waste of money because they just just did not do the job.

About 2 years ago, my local grocery chain started to carry a brand called Sun Burst. It happened to be on sale so I bought the big 75 load jug at $3.99.(regularly $4.99) Another one to try. I make it a point to use a whole jug before making up my mind. I did so with this product.
Because I have allergies, I bought the Hypo-Allergic-free of dyes and perfume.

I have been so pleased, I've told everyone I know about this stuff. Not only is it inexpensive but it did a great job.
I cannot afford brands like Tide. Too much money. I found this stuff brightened my clothes and it seemed especially good at whitening all the white blouses I wear. I do not like to use Chlorine bleach.

As another experiment with laundry finds, I was at Dollar Tree about a year ago. Saw a powdered non-chlorine bleach called SUN. As far as I can tell, it has no relation to the company that makes Sun Burst detergent. Decided to give that a try. At &1.00 a box, why not?

The combination of the two for my whites and pastels clothes is great. Just make sure you swish the powdered bleach around your washer tub to dissolve it. I use warm water so it takes a few more swishes with a wooden spoon to dissolve it. Fill the machine and that's it.

I have a top loader, an old Maytag. If I feel things need to soak a while, I stop the machine and let the stuff sit, sometimes overnight. Very pleased.

There is such a huge difference in cost, I will never switch to anything else.

The Sun Burst detergent is make by Huish Detergents in Utah, the powdered bleach by The Sun Corporation in CT. The detergent is also available in powder. Have not used that.
For me, the liquid is certainly a bargain.

Hope this is helpful.

1. I can't stand the fragrances, so I buy whatever undyed, unscented liquid detergent
I can find on sale or get coupons for.

Tide, Seventh Generation, Planet.......whichever, just so they are in those white bottles, lol.

2. The one I use from Sun burst is free of dyes and fragrances.
Sun Burst Free & Clear

The ingredients are listed as follows:
Environmentally friendly.
Contains naturally derived vegetable-based anionic and/or nonionic surfactants.
Contains no phosphorus.
Biodegradable cleaning agents. Safe for septic systems.

The white plastic container is recyclable. I get the 117 fl oz size and it indicates it will do 75 loads.

4. I think we'll try that
We currently use Cheer Free, which is ridiculously expensive. And the make-it-yourself detergent recipes online are too difficult...no way could we handle the smell of Fels-Naptha bubbling on the stove. :puke:
