I might as well face it, I'm never going to have a Martha Stewart home.

Try and try, there just isn't any way for the average person to keep up. Spend hours cleaning the house, and the yard suffers. Spend hours on the garden, and the house gets dirty. Take time to cook, and the laundry builds up. Do the laundry, and end up eating a Lean Cuisine for dinner.

Ah, too bad I'm not one of the idle rich. The staff could do all of this for me.

1. You are a member of a huge club. Take today's and switch it to
tomorrow. If it does not get done tomorrow, add it to the list for the next day. That's what I do. Only way I can cope!!
Sometimes the list gets rather familiar. The same thing shows up day after day. Today I finally got one off my list for 6 months. I pulled out the refrig, removed the cardboard back and vac'd the coils. Proud of myself.(finally)

2. If you have family or roommates, they need to pull their own weight.
Assign chores. And whenever possible, avoid making a mess you will have to clean up later. And clean as you go.

I know how it is. I have a 1 BR apartment, and what with keeping me fed and clothed and cleaning up the fur from 2 cats, I have my hands more than full.

None of us have homes like Martha's. Hell, I doubt MARTHA'S home looks like her magazine. At least the parts she actually lives in.

3. I have gotten to the "who cares" stage of life.
Forget Martha Stewart. I have said the same thing as you for years---it is the yard OR the house. It is cooking OR mowing. One person cannot do it all, and I will no longer try to be super-single.

4. I have friends
with Martha Stewart houses. They are mostly people with cleaning ladies. Still, I feel morally deficient :-) It doesn't help that I have house projects in very slow progress, like having pulled up (most of) the wall to wall carpet and pulled down the wallpaper. Every time someone sees the inside of my house, it occurs to me they probably think I'm nuts :-)

Even when I lived in just a dorm room in college, I remember once having cleaned it from top to bottom and arranged my books and knickknacks perfectly and someone walked in and said, when are you going to clean this room...

6. Be grateful. Her daughter Alexis claims that Martha doesn't close the bathroom
door like most of us.
