I got burned by a power outage and my battery was dead in my clock radio. I made it to work in time but it was a mad scramble. Never again! I now use my cell phone. Volume up and on vibrate in a ceramic mug next to my bed. Try sleeping through that! I have to set it every night because my start time at work varies from day to day. That is much easier than setting the clock radio.
I also set it for my clock in time at work. I tend to get there early and get busy before I'm allowed to clock in and I forget sometimes.

since hubby works nights, i didn't want the alarm clock blaring and waking him also. since i fall asleep with an earbud listening to Stephanie Miller and the 'old phone' ring wakes me but not him

I have one that can't be used in this area, so it's my alarm clock now. :)
