Best way to clean wall oven and gas counter top stove?
My daughter and her SO have just bought a great house. The place is spotless except for the oven and stove-top. Since I have had a self cleaning oven for years, I don't know what to use that might do the job better than the old Easy-Off.

The oven is not too bad but the stove-top is really in need of help. Burned on grunge.
They will eventually replace these 2 old units(1960's coppertone)but for now, I get clean up duty.
I can take the iron burner grates home and soak in ammonia but the surface of the unit itself is the biggest chore.
Any ideas would be a great help.

1. Well, if they wouldn't mind investing about $80 into a steam cleaner
I'd suggest one of these:

I've had one of these for about a year now, and it's simply amazing how well it cleans all kinds of things. It comes with a variety of brush tips that are perfect for stuck on grunge in small spaces, like I imagine would be on this stove and oven. I would buy another one of these in a minute if this one were to die on me.

The combination of hot, pressured steam and brushes works miracles.

2. My recent experience:
I am now living in an aptm. with an old stove. I, too, have had self-cleaning ovens for years, but this oven's self-cleaning feature doesn't work. So, after an apple pie boiled over in it, I was wondering what to use. I bought Easy-Off and was pleasantly surprised that it worked better than the old Easy-Off, and without the awful ammonia stench.

3. For the stove top use a Chore Boy Golden Cloth and Cameo stainless steel cleaner.
Make a moist paste with water and the Cameo powder and then use a LOT of elbow grease with the Golden Chore Boy cloth. I did this to clean my stainless steel cooktop without scratching it. Good luck!

4. Finished the job. Used Easy Off, the blue can, no fumes.
I must say this was not an fun job but the new Easy Off did a great job. In fact, it was comparatively easy. I got a bunch of old rags, sprayed it on and let it sit for a few hours.
Wiped off the initial grunge and repeated the process. I never had to really scrub, just wipe off, rinse rag and wipe again until I had to respray.

Both the oven and the stove look like new.
It is really too bad that they are coppertone. Not my daughters favorite color but it will do until they decide to do some work on the kitchen.

Same units but not pink.

Thank for your hints! Job done.
