is very liberal.
Some of the great names in early progressivism come from the upper midwest:
Henry Wallace and Tom Harkin of Iowa
Fighting Bob La Follette (and Russ Feingold) of Wisconsin
Hubert Humphrey of Minnesota.
Throw in the Adlai Stevensons of Illinois to round it out.
