It's open season on hillbillies, rednecks, and "white trash" in this country. It's no different from prejudice against blacks, Jews, and Puerto Ricans. Even though whites have always formed the upper-middle classes, these groups and their ancestors were always at the bottom of the heap.

Personally, I like ethnic and cultural humor. I don't think enjoying it means you're racist, and can even help to identify with and work through experiences with other groups. But what's good for the goose is good for the gander. You can't read Snuffy Smith and complain about Jose Jimenez.
