the ONLY Republican who got booed -- and the booing was scattered and lasted for only a few seconds -- was Trent Lott. Then-Minnesota governor, Jesse Ventura (and member of the Indepedence Party, NOT a Republican), also got a few boo's -- but he was the kind of gov that made it hard NOT to boo him.
I was there, in person. The event was billed as a memorial CELEBRATION of Senator Paul Wellstone's life, and was most certainly NOT a funeral!
The booing of Senator Lott was unfortunate, imho. But it was done by only a small segment of the 20,000 participants, and ended quickly. From where I was seated, I had a clear view of all the Washington dignitaries who attended. Sen. Lott appeared to take it in good graces and grinned, and the other Senators around him patted him on the back and joked with him about it. The entire incident was over and done with in just a few moments.
I also believe you are mistaken about Democrats not being welcome to Reagan's memorial. They simply will not be speaking. And why should they? Reagan stood for many things that any good Democrat worth the name ought to rightly oppose.
Let's not foment outrage where none is called for.
