It's not the greatest movie ever, but I really enjoyed it. I was a born-again in high school (ugh, don't remind me!), so I could identify with a lot of stuff in the film. It was fun to laugh at my former self (though I was never as bad as is Hilary Fay (played with delicious self-righteousness by Mandy Moore)). I thought the script was quite clever, and I found myself moved by it.
Of course, all the subversive kids are the most interesting ones in the Xtian school. But it also shows some of the self-righteous kids learning and evolving, which is great. It's not a total trashing of Christianity or belief in God, just of the intolerant, self-righteous kind.
I thought the acting was great -- Jena Malone, Patrick Fugit, McCauley Culkin, Ava Amurri (Susan Sarandon's daughter) ... the lot.
