1. McCain was never going to be the VP. McCain and Kerry worked a rumor that a) messed with Karl Rove's mind b) telegraphed to independent voters and disenchanted Repugs that Kerry was not a close minded ideologue (like GWB). Please note that McCain has categorically denied he was ever offered the VP>

2. I am in Iowa and this is what happened here. Kerry campaigned his butt off to get the nomination. He fired his crappy campaign manager and staff and hired Ted Kennedy's people. He got really serious about it. They honed his stump speech. He busted his butt around Iowa. He was everywhere. He spent time with people. They liked him, they liked what he said. Teresa was out there too - whereever Kerry wasnt, Teresa was - in diners, at women's clubs, etc. People really liked her too.

The first Kerry event I went to was right after veterans day. There were about 60 people there. I was deciding between Dean and Kerry. Kerry blew me away, he was really good, what he said made sense, it was moving, half the people there were in tears,

I talked to my friends. I sent them to rallys I took a few of them to rallys. They liked what they heard, they talked to their friends and took them to rallys. I was not the only talking to my friends (and the campaign was really encouraging that too)

The last Kerry rally I went to in my smallish town had several thousand. At the end, John Kerry stayed until every individual who wanted to talk to him was able to talk to him.

PSS. If you read about the history of John Kerry campaigns, you will read that he is a strong closer. He is strategic about it, he maximizes his campaign to when people are paying attention.

PSSSSS no he is not a NEO_CON.
