Sorry, it's early and I'm a dunce...but I'm confused about "can afford to be a democrat"? Notoriously the wealthy vote Republican and the middle/lower class votes Democrat. It seems like the wealthy can afford to vote Republican because they don't need the social programs that the poor would need. The poor NEED to vote democrat because they can't afford to blow their votes on a party that will not support the social programs that they need, ie, healthcare.
Did I miss your point completely? Please help.
