That's what we used to do. My husband is one of 8, and has 23 nieces and nephews. We have two of our own. It got pretty overwhelming for a while before the kids grew up. I came up with the hat idea. We put all the kids' names in one hat, adults in the other. Every adult drew out one or more kids and and one adult, so you could afford to buy something nice for just a few.
