these types of laws limit or completely eliminate liability from the home owner for lawfully protecting herself with deadly force. Without these laws there is no assurance, in fact high likelihood, if a felon breaks into a home and is shot or otherwise injured by the resident, the criminal or the criminal's family can file a liability suit against the innocent occupant. The suit may or may not be successful, it costs the innocent party both time and considerable legal expenses to defend themselves. These are good laws...they may even be a greater crime deterrent than possible prison.
