5. Excellent idea on the commission, Cali. But I disagree slightly on one point.
A win for civil rights is a win for civil rights. Repeal of DADT will have a greatly beneficial effect on the other areas you list. So while DADT repeal may not directly affect the gay community at large it opens the door to the other areas. It shows the way, so to speak. I remember when DADT was enacted and how furious the debate was. The most vociferous anti gays in that argument are, by and large, no longer with us. If you look back on the level of that debate you would be surprised at how goofy it sounded (and would sound to just about anybody today, not just activists and liberals). We just don't think that way generally any more...
