One thing led to another and now I'm reading Shakespeare's English Kings, by Peter Saccio, and Shakespeare the Player by John Southworth. The first is history, the second explores a very interesting thesis. Southworth is a working actor. He explores the idea that Shakespeare got his start as an apprentice to an acting company. Elizabethan theater was a complicated business and it's ludicrous to suppose Shakespeare jjust showed up in London in the '90s knowing all about stagecraft and ready to knock out Richard the 3rd and Romeo and Juliet. Makes a lot of sense when you think about it. I'll take a look at Will in the World.
