2. That comment really shows the type of person Springfield is
I remember Springsteen's wonderful words in support of Kerry when he appeared with him.

Years ago - around 2003, I took my oldest daughter to Ashbury Park to see a Joan Jett concert. We live far away enough that we stayed at a seaside hotel that was nearly deserted. In the restaurant, The waitress and my daughter ended up speaking about the local concerts. When asked, her favorite was a clear and unmistakable choice - Springsteen. Not because of his music - which she liked, but because of things he did for the community.

Ashbury Park was a pretty depressed area. She spoke of how he spoke to and engaged with young underprivileged kids like her son. She credits him with convincing her son to stay away from the drugs and crime in the area. This made me think that the comments he made before playing at Kerry's concert were not just words, but heartfelt believes. It is easy to understand why he broke his no politics rule in 2004 and why he made this lovely gesture of visiting Kerry after the lost and giving him a guitar. They are two good people.
