Corker is, in relative terms, a pleasant surprise. Very conservative, especially on econmic issues (he was horrible when the car companies bailout was discussed), but as you said not a lockstep and spewing non-digested talkng points kind of guy, he seems to pefer to use his own mind instead. In addition to his rather decent behavior in the SFRC, I remember seeing in the banking commitee a while back (before the election), I do not remember what the hearing was about and generally these financial issues are way over my head, but I remember him asking what seemed to be intelligent questions from the panel and from the other senators, and seemed to have a genuine desire to learn more about the issue.
