2. I so agree on his being in the right place as Senator (though we would both prefer President)
Reading what I have from wikileaks and other things, I wonder how comfortable he would have been with some decisions made by the Bush administration. It seems clear that he was 100% against accepting the Honduras coup - and wrote opeds to say so. It was clear that he took a much stronger position than Obama on torture, but there has been no movement to repeal the "torture" bill or to correct the definition of what constitutes torture. There was also the memo over Hillary's signature that essentially wanted diplomats to spy.

It is possible if he were there and not Hillary, different decisions would have been made. But, that implicitly assumes that Obama is weak enough or uncertain enough that he would change drastically based on who had most access to him.

I agree on the policy vs politics and can add one more - the end, where he speaks of being "adults". For a politely written oped, it effectively blasts Romney better than anything I can imagine. It is righteous.

Kerry has been extremely loyal to Obama - maybe more than he should - but, he has been able to take different positions that as SoS, he likely might not have been able to do.
