4. This is great, though a little sad
Had the press been more perceptive, the Kerry shown last week is the Kerry that was always there - going back to when he protested the war. The seriousness and the focus - and the consistent vision were always there. The importance of the treaty gave Kerry a platform where he was seen for what his staff estimated was 40 hours. His ability to handle everything while reaching out often in many ways to lower the tensions and never showing any anger or annoyance was amazing. It had to be a challenge, even to Kerry, to stay so focused on the issue and his goal for that many hours. Yet, I doubt it really surprised anyone.

Sadly, the McCain we saw last week was partly the McCain that could be seen in the many times he did not live up to his standards - the standards the media fell in love with, ignoring he never managed to meet them. It is odd, that many of the things they praised McCain for were characteristics that Kerry more consistently demonstrated, while many of the attacks on Kerry are truer of McCain and were ALL due RW attacks over the last 4 decades.

What would be better is a media that reported, rather than tried to create narratives - rejecting anything that did not fit.
