Simpson voiced his disapproval of two of the three senate democrats picked so far for this committee. He spoke earlier today about Senators Max Baucus of Montana and Patty Murray of Washington.
He says when he worked along side Baucus, he felt he rarely participated in committee activities or meetings and seemed to be continually holding back.
This debt committee is charged with cutting the deficit by at least 1.5 trillion dollars over the next decade. Now 9 of the 12 members are set.
"When you see the extremes in there, it's going take a while to establish trust, but they
don't have three months to establish trust," said Simpson.
Simpson did however give a thumbs up to Harry Reid's third pick, John Kerry, saying "he will do good work" on the committee.
Now, it is clear that the reason Simpson welcomes Kerry is because he thinks Kerry will cave and the two other ones will not (Baucus was a NO vote on the Simpson commission). This endorsement will be held against Kerry.
